GIPSA Officers Examination
1. About GIPSA Examination:
- General Insurers Public Sector Association (GIPSA) comprising of the four PSU general insurers, GIC, and AIC
is a coordinating body for handling the common matters relating to its member companies including HR matters.
- Every year, it conducts an all India competitive examination for promotion of officers of GIPSA member
companies in scale 1, 2, 3 and 4 to the higher cadre. From 2019-20 Promotion Exercise onwards, the written
exam will be conducted only for Fast Track Channel.
- The promotion policy prescribes various factors like written test, insurance qualifications, work record,
and interview and their relative weightage in the assessment for different cadres as applicable.
2. Pattern of the Examination:
- For promotion from all scales i.e. scale 1, 2, 3 & 4, there will be objective type multiple choice
questions. The participants will have to answer 100 questions out of total 120 questions. There
will be 30 questions from each section out of which candidate can answer maximum 25 questions.
The test aims to evaluate the functional and technical knowledge, legal & regulatory aspects, exposure and job
skills proficiencies besides thinking / reasoning ability of the candidate.
- Fast Track Promotions - 40% of vacancies if each scale will be marked for Fast Track Promotions. The
candidate must be Associate / Fellow and should score minimum 60% / 54% in the exam to be considered. There
will be interview also and the selection will be done as per revised Promotion Policy.
- Extended Eligibility - The officer who qualifies in the written exam but does not get promotion in
that year shall, irrespective of his qualifying in the written test for the respective Promotion Exercises
thereafter, be included in the Promotional Process for next three years for 25% of the vacancies in that year
as per amended Policy.
3. Common Rules for all Cadres:
- The exam will be held in Online Mode at various centres all over India
- The duration of the test for all cadres will be two and half hours. Qualifying marks will be 60% for
general category and 54% for reserved category officers.
- There is provision of negative marking of “Minus 1/3” per incorrect answer. There will be no negative
marking for shortfall in answering questions. All excess questions will be ignored in descending order.
- There will be suitable weightage in setting questions on technical operations and human resources areas.
Weightage for Human Resource area will increase with increasing cadre for promotion.
4. What is Para 13.2?
- Para 13.2 exam is an internal promotional exam in General Insurers Public Sector Association (GIPSA)
companies by which assistant (clerks) working in class 3 cadre can become administrative officer (AO).
Insurance sector company takes Para 13.2 exam every year which is conducted by Insurance Institute of India
(III). Only employee in one of the four Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) insurance companies can apply for para
13.2 exams.
