Section 2(44) of Companies Act, 2013 has defined "Global Depository Receipt" as any instrument in the form of a depository receipt, by whatever name called, created by a foreign depository outside India and authorised by a company making an issue of depository receipts.
Foreign direct investment (FDI) is an investment in a companys business by an investor from another country for which the foreign investor has control over the company.
FDI is the sum of equity capital or other long-term capital, and short-term capital for expansion of business. Stock of FDI is the net (i.e., inward FDI minus outward FDI) cumulative FDI for any given period.
The foreign direct investors may invest and acquire voting rights of enterprises in other countries and their economy through any of the following methods : i. by incorporating a wholly owned subsidiary or company, ii. by acquiring shares in an associated enterprise
