Thalamus is located in the lower central part of the brain. It connects those areas of cerebral cortex that are involved in sensory perception and movement with those parts of brain and spinal cord that also have a role in sensory perception and movement.
Hypothalamus is the controlling unit of many of the autonomic functions performed by the peripheral nervous system.
The brain stem connects the brain with the spinal cord.
The spinal cord is cylindrical shaped extension of the brain that is surrounded by vertebral bodies that form the spinal column. The 2 major functions of the spinal cord include : It provides two-way conduction routes to/from (afferent/efferent) the brain, It serves as the reflex center for all spinal reflexes.
Automatic nervous system is also known as involuntary nervous system. It consists of motor neurons and controls the involuntary actions of internal organs (intestine, bladder and uterus), blood vessels, smooth and cardiac muscles.
