  • The kidney can be divided into two distinct regions: cortex and medulla.
  • The ureters carry urine to the bladder. The urinary bladder is a reservoir for storing the urine until it is ready to be discharged from the body.
  • The urethra is a tube leading from the bladder to the outside opening of the body through which the urine is discharged.
  • Proteinuria means the appearance of excessive protein in the urine, i.e. greater than 20 mg/d1 in a random sample.
  • Albuminuria means the presence of excessive albumin in the urine, i.e. greater than 3 mg/d1.
